Clemmie Hooper, otherwise known as Mother Of Daughters, represents the essence of a busy woman to us, and we are happy to be able to feature her. She is a midwife, a mother of four daughters, a wife, the founder of a blog GAS&AIR, she has a loyal social media following (over 400k) and, to top it all off, Clemmie is also a published author. Clemmie’s book “How to grow a baby and push it out” came out earlier this year and it is a must read for any mums to be.
Please read our interview and follow Clemmie’s journey over on her instagram and website. We discussed everything from body positivity, confidence and work/life balance, to her dream collaborations, a wishlist for this season and the launch of her second book, coming in 2018.
PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF. I’m Clemmie I’m 33, I’m a midwife, and author and I’m married to Simon. Together we have 4 daughters and have recently moved from London to Kent.
Confidence has to come from within and for me and my relationship with my body has finally come to a place where I’m content with what I see.
PUBLISHING A BOOK IS SUCH A MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT, AND YOU ARE NOW WORKING ON YOUR SECOND ONE. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW BOOK AND WHEN IT IS COMING OUT? April 2018. It’s a week by week pregnancy journal for a woman to document their pregnancy journey, thoughts, emotions, feelings with little pockets of wisdom from me the midwife. So many women forget how they felt in each pregnancy and in a digital age it’s a lovely way to write things down and have it as a keep safe. The idea is you can then look back on it and discuss it with your child as he or she grows.
WE LOVE YOUR CAMPAIGN ABOUT BODY POSITIVITY AND FEMALE EMPOWERMENT. PLEASE TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT IT AND WHAT BEING CONFIDENT MEANS TO YOU? Confidence has to come from within and for me and my relationship with my body has finally come to a place where I’m content with what I see. I’ve carried 4 babies, given birth to them and breastfed them so I should be congratulating my body and saying thanks not punishing it or criticising it. I love clothes and I no longer worry about what size jeans I’m wearing and focus on how the feel on me and how they look, it’s taken a long time to get to this point.
YOU ARE RAISING FOUR GIRLS, WHAT ADVICE WILL YOU GIVE THEM AS THEY TURN INTO YOUNG WOMEN IN THE MODERN WORLD? That they are capable of doing what ever they want to do and no one (man or woman) should tell them differently. Don’t be afraid of trying new things and don’t give up if you don’t get there 1st/2nd time around (I failed my driving test twice!) we all get there in the end.
YOU HAVE AN AMAZING CAREER AND A BIG FAMILY, WITH THE HECTIC SCHEDULE THAT COMES WITH BOTH – HOW DO YOU MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF AND WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND? Well it’s almost Christmas so there is very little time for me at the mo it seems to be all about the kids but self care doesn’t need to be extravagant. Just taking 15 minutes to yourself such as having a long bath with magnesium salts (amazing for aching limbs) no phone, no distractions just being present in the moment.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION? A jewellery brand would be amazing or a lipstick range, I love wearing lipsticks especially Bobby Brown or Lipstick Queen.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS? Doing something that you’re passionate about, and doing it well.
BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN? Never go to bed without taking your make up off.
LET’S TALK ABOUT FASHION… WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECES IN YOUR WARDROBE AND WHERE ARE THEY FROM? I’m loving my camel winter coat from Jigsaw, it goes with everything dress it up with heel or down with trainers and a big oversized scarf. It’s quite cold in our new house so I’m all about the knitwear, I’ve got an oversized pink American Vintage jumper that I’m living in and my & Other Stories jeans.
IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD YOU BUY? Underfloor heating in the bathrooms! I hate being cold!
WHAT ITEMS ARE ON YOUR WISHLIST FOR THIS SEASON? I’ve had my eye on a Ganni dress for ages I can’t justify it but I might need a new dress for my book launch…… I bought myself a Gucci bag when I got my first book royalties it totally extravagant and Simon has no idea how much it cost (I’m not sure he even knows it’s Gucci)
