MERCER7 MEETS… Eimear Varian Barry

Eimear is the founder of www.theEVBedit.com – a fashion and lifestyle platform where she showcases her own work as well as her collaborations with leading industry creatives and brands.

She is one of those multitasking people who leads a busy lifestyle, is a mother of two beautiful girls, works hard 24/7 and looks amazing doing it. She is incredibly stylish and, despite being a very successful blogger, stylist and a creative, is unbelievably humble and down to earth. And that’s what we love about her, besides the obvious perfected monochrome aesthetic and artistic eye in her work as a photographer.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND THE EVB EDIT?
I’m from Cork in Ireland. I’m a mum to two baby girls! I have lived all around the world and have worked every job under the sun. I live in Surrey and I photograph, vlog, model, style and write.

I actually began this whole thing on my socials (I have always been obsessed with the wonder of social media so it was inevitable I would work in it some day!) but set up my blog about a year ago. It’s to showcase my collaborations but it needs a lot more love to be honest! I want it to be a place for people to come and want everything on there!! I will be adding a shop section soon…

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE PHILOSOPHY AND AESTHETIC?
I guess my style is quite Androgynistic, Saturated and generally dressed down.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
To be honest, Instagram inspires me more than anything! Accounts I love are: kelli_murrayCissy wears and Casschung, Mothers Meetings (obviously! How it all started!!) and Apphia____

HOW DO YOUR BALANCE TRENDS ANDF TIMELESSNESS?
I like to dress pretty simple with a rock and roll edge. But I also like to introduce a small item, perhaps an accessory which is “on trend”.

ADVICE FOR THE ASPIRING FASHION STYLISTS OUT THERE?
Start by reaching out to every single stylist you can. You will work for nothing for a while, but it will be worth it in the long run. In the creative industry, you have to make sacrifices and show your worth, before anyone will notice you. Keep the head down, work hard and keep asking people do they need help on projects/shoots. Trust me! You’ll make contacts and be offered paid work in the end.

YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE A VERY BUSY SCHEDULE, JUGGLING MOTHERHOOD AND CAREER. WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
I love the hospitality (worked in it for years) and visit as many different cafes and restaurants in London as possible. I’m a total coffee snob. Ha! Everything’s different now. It’s not “work”. I don’t feel the same way about what I do. It’s in me. It’s what I am meant to do. It doesn’t feel like any other job I’ve ever done, because I’ve finally made what I love doing a job.

WHAT ARE YOUR KEY WORDROBE STAPLES THAT YOU WEAR THE MOST AND WHERE ARE THEY FROM?
Oh! At the moment, my dark green Gestuz aviator jacket. So warm. Also Dorothy Perkins did a lace up flat boot a couple of months ago for £25 and I still live in them. Gap jeans I wear a lot too and my Reve En Vert black sweater.

LET’S TALK ABOUT STYLE ICONS… WHO’S STYLE DO YOU ADMIRE THE MOST AND WHY?
That’s a tough one. I love Oracle fox Monikh and Alexa Chung, but honestly, I don’t have one specific style icon I look to. I just love taking inspo from
everyone and everything. Mostly from people watching at Kaffeine on Berners St!

FAVOURITE QUOTE OR WORDS YOU LIVE BY?
Well I never take anything I have for granted. If my social media following was taken away in the morning- what would I be left with? What have I learned? Who have I created strong working / personal relationships with? I think it’s important to look beyond, stay grounded and not get carried away with yourself. Which is very easy to do with my profession.

WHAT KIND OF PROJECTS HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING ON LATELY?
Recently I was working with a creative agency and did a style show with Denise Van Outen for Matalan and ITV. In the last few weeks I’ve done campaigns with Next, (feature on their website) Laura AshleySamsungRiver IslandMarks and SpencerDebenhams and Dorothy Perkins are coming to my house to shoot their Christmas campaign for their website this week. I’ve a load in the pipeline for Spring- which I’m excited for!

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM SHOOT OR COLLABORATION?
Perhaps with Acne or Gucci. Or anything with Vogue! But ultimate dream is to work with Vice.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
Career wise? Doing what you love, to the best of your extent with the professionals of your industry. Life? Being content with yourself, free of anxiety, with a lot of love around you.

WHAT ITEMS ARE ON YOUR WISHLIST FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON?
Something from Wood Grey, Shop folkster home stuff, AesopLelabo fragrances or anything from my fave boutiques back home Samui (in Cork) and Olori boutique. Also- would love a voucher for a flight somewhere exotic?!!! What are the chances of that?
