MERCER7 MEETS… Emma Hart

Today, we are interviewing the impressive Emma Hart, the founder and the Creative Director of Push PR – one of the most sought after luxury fashion agencies based in London. Emma is one of those people, who makes the world a better place with her positive outlook on life and incredibly supportive and kind personality.

We were lucky enough to get invited over to Push PR’s stunning offices, located in North London’s the Arts Building. It is a dream space, with the sun light flooding through their oversized windows onto to the beautifully curated showroom and work space.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHAT MADE YOU START PUSH PR?
Having started my career in journalism I then moved into global PR campaigns for a number of large luxury fashion & beauty brands. This was incredible experience and was at a time when global retail was booming. With a passion for business and the luxury markets I saw an opportunity to go it alone, developing bespoke campaigns and applying my expertise and contacts towards my own business.I have always wanted to work for myself. I am a natural connector and love building networks, introducing people and spreading the word about great products, great people and great businesses.  In 2002 – at the age of 24 – I launched Push PR.  Fourteen years on I run the business with my husband (he joined in 2010) and we have a brilliant team of 21, a client list of over 35 luxury fashion, jewellery, beauty and wellbeing brands.  Our client list spans over 12 countries including Taiwan, Australia, the US, Sweden, the middle east and of course the UK just to name a few. Overall my main passion is to inspire and motivate people through telling a story.

HOW HAS SOCIAL MEDIA CHANGED PUBLIC RELATIONS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
Beyond recognition! Once upon a time it was a much smaller outreach we had to cover. Just print media, TV, Radio and VIP’s. It’s now HUGE. Online media, influencers, bloggers, vloggers…..the list goes on. It takes discipline and focus to switch off. We always advise our clients to prioritise outreach and avoid global over saturation. It’s hard but it’s important to stay true to your vision.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION?
I have three; Givenchy for classic, Miu miu as it’s consistently up there as one of my favourite brands of all time and Warby Parker – I love their company ethos, values and vibe. Whenever I visit New York I always stop by the Soho or Meatpacking store and buy too many pairs of glasses. Everyone is lovely that works there, the environment inspiring and they always seem to remember me from previous visits.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
Staying sane, leaving the house with matching shoes, being happy, valuing others and being valued – every other element of success will come if these are in check

Be kind, it costs nothing.

Emma Hart, Founder of Push PR

YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE A VERY BUSY SCHEDULE. WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
Hanging out with my children – Scarlett 9, Sonny 7. They definitely keep me very busy! As a family we love eating out, going to galleries, gigs, the theatre, exploring London and beyond. I like to be productive and have busy weekends – I’m not great at relaxing! I also love traveling and exploring the world – I’m always looking for the next place to visit. I very much enjoy cooking and as much as possible like to keep relatively fit and active with various different classes such as boxing and spinning.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ADVICE FOR ANY ASPIRING FASHION ENTREPRENEURS OUT THERE?
Work hard and be nice to people. Go to as many events and meet people. Discover your niche – what makes you different? It’s a competitive and saturated market so you need to stand out.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER TO DATE?
There have been so many ‘pinch me’ moments over my career. Overriding is the daily buzz I get from walking through the doors of the office into our beautiful showroom when the sun is flooding in through the windows and seeing the team with smiles on their faces. I thrive on motivating, inspiring and seeing other people happy.

IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO HAVE DINNER WITH ANYONE (DEAD OR ALIVE) WHO WOULD THAT BE AND WHY?
Marilyn Monroe, Morrissey, Nick Cave and Iris Apfel – preferably all together!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE OR WORDS YOU LIVE BY?
Be kind, it costs nothing.
